Celebrating the Halfway Point: Our 20-Week Pregnancy Journey Update and a Big Family Secret Revealed!
The journey of pregnancy is filled with countless milestones, and reaching the 20-week mark is undoubtedly one of the most exciting. We’ve officially crossed the halfway point, a moment that feels both surreal and incredibly fast-paced. As we reflect on the past five months and look forward to the next twenty weeks, there’s so much to share – from the growing baby bump to a highly anticipated gender reveal that has our entire family brimming with joy and anticipation. This post offers a candid look into our experiences, challenges, and the overwhelming gratitude we feel as we continue this beautiful, albeit sometimes difficult, path.

Embracing the Evolving Baby Bump: A 20-Week Perspective
Honestly, I can barely believe I’m sharing this picture. Selfies have never been my strong suit – can you tell? I often wonder how fashion bloggers manage to look so effortlessly chic and perfectly posed. Regardless, I’m thrilled to provide an update: I am officially 20 weeks pregnant! BOOM! Halfway there, baby! The baby bump is truly starting to make its presence known, and with it come a few intriguing thoughts and observations about this transformative phase of pregnancy.
The first thing that comes to mind is how… well, *awkward* it can feel. Perhaps it shouldn’t, but it often feels like every outing, every social interaction, every photo shared becomes an impromptu belly inspection. Eyes seem to gravitate towards the bump, subtly scrutinizing its size or shape. And if I happen to wear an outfit that bunches in an unusual way, the comments about “getting fluffy” inevitably start. It’s all in good humor, of course, and I know it stems from excitement and well-wishes. But it truly cracks me up! So, I decided to embrace it by wearing my tightest clothes for these photos, allowing everyone to see that, yes, the bump is indeed making its grand entrance. Unfortunately, I feel like this picture doesn’t quite capture its full essence, but then again, I am still the world’s worst selfie-taker!
On another note, I’m fairly certain this pregnancy has me showing more significantly at this stage than with my previous two children, which feels utterly unique and, dare I say, a little wild! While the photograph might not convey it perfectly, this baby bump is certainly growing at an accelerated pace this time around. It’s a fascinating, sometimes surprising, aspect of each individual pregnancy journey, reminding me that every baby and every experience is truly one-of-a-kind. It’s a beautiful, albeit sometimes challenging, testament to the miracle of life unfolding within.
Our Little One’s Journey: Kicks, Concerns, and Hopes
And then there’s our sweet baby. Oh, how we adore this little one already. Medically speaking, our baby is currently measuring a little over a week behind schedule. Interestingly, this has been a consistent pattern with all our previous children, who consistently measured slightly behind during pregnancy but then decided to arrive about two weeks early! I won’t lie; I am absolutely holding onto the hope that this little one follows suit and blesses us with an early arrival too. The anticipation of meeting our newest family member is almost unbearable, and I can hardly imagine having to wait those two “extra” weeks! I know, it might sound like a bit of a “sob story,” but our excitement is genuine. As long as it’s a safe and healthy time for baby to come into the world, we are more than ready to welcome them with open arms.
Our baby currently prefers a breech position, with feet down, which explains why I’m feeling those energetic kicks so incredibly low. It’s a distinctive sensation, a constant reminder of the vibrant life stirring within. Our fervent hope is that by the time of delivery, the baby will have shifted to a head-down position. However, we’re also currently navigating the complexities of placenta previa, a condition where the placenta covers the cervix. This means a C-section is potentially on the horizon unless, by some miracle, the placenta moves as I continue to grow and the uterus expands. We are praying diligently for a resolution, as I deeply desire to experience a natural delivery, just as I did with my first two children. The thought of a C-section brings its own set of anxieties and recovery challenges, but ultimately, our priority remains the health and safety of both myself and our precious baby. We trust in the process and hold onto hope for the best possible outcome.

Navigating Life with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG): The Reality of My Days
Since so many of you have kindly inquired, I wanted to offer an honest glimpse into the daily reality of living with hyperemesis gravidarum. The persistent nausea is still very much a part of my life, lingering throughout the day and intensifying particularly at night. It’s a constant companion, a subtle hum of discomfort that rarely fully dissipates. There are, of course, good days and bad days, a fluctuating rhythm that defines my experience. On the more challenging days, I find myself profoundly sick and struggle immensely with eating. Yet, even on these difficult days, the vomiting, while present, is thankfully nothing like the relentless, debilitating episodes I endured earlier in this pregnancy. That earlier intensity of HG was truly something else, and I am profoundly grateful for this shift.
Despite the ongoing nausea and occasional sickness, I often manage to leave the house when necessary. In fact, regardless of how unwell I might feel, I’ve made a conscious effort to put on a brave face, offer a smile, and charge ahead. This isn’t born out of denial, but out of a deep-seated gratitude for this precious, unique time. It’s certainly not always easy to maintain this positive outlook, but I’ve learned an invaluable lesson: attitude truly makes a profound difference. I’ve made a deliberate decision, long before each day begins, to remind myself that I am not alone, that I possess the strength to navigate this journey, and that blessings can be found in every single day, no matter how small. This proactive approach has made the challenging aspects of HG far more endurable. It has been a profound period of growth, teaching me the transformative power of choosing happiness, even when surrounded by moments of darkness and discomfort. This pregnancy, despite its hurdles, has underscored the resilience of the human spirit and the profound joy that can coexist with adversity.

The Big Reveal: A Boy Joins Our Family!
And now, for the exciting news that I know many of you have been eagerly waiting for! You want to know our big secret, right? Our wonderful girls have done an absolutely incredible job of keeping it under wraps for over a month now – and believe me, that’s no small feat for little ones! (See, even being sick with HG has its blessings; it meant weekly ultrasounds, which led to an early gender reveal!). We are so incredibly impressed by their discretion and patience.
And no, it’s not twins, despite what some might jokingly suggest when seeing two caps! Our girls, with their boundless enthusiasm, desperately wanted to orchestrate a “cute” gender reveal, and after much deliberation, they settled on the idea of using baseball caps. It seemed like a charming and straightforward plan. However, a comical challenge arose: after tirelessly hunting through what felt like every single store in Utah, I made a surprising discovery – finding baseball caps for little kids is apparently an impossible mission! It was an unexpected hurdle, but eventually, we had to “settle” for these two bright orange ones, which, in hindsight, added their own unique charm to the reveal. The anticipation leading up to this moment was palpable, not just for us, but for everyone who knew about the secret.

With immense joy and overflowing hearts, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that we are having a boy! And I must admit, I win hands down in the “who knew first” department! Even before I could take a pregnancy test, I had this incredibly strong, undeniable feeling that I was carrying a little boy. Both our girls and Cade, my husband, were well aware of my unwavering intuition that a little man was making his home in my belly. To finally see it confirmed on the ultrasound screen was an indescribable moment. A profound sense of peace filled the room, washing over all of us, and our hearts swelled with a joy so immense that words truly cannot capture it. A little Cade. The thought alone fills me with such tenderness. We are so utterly in love already. In fact, even now, as I type this, I cannot stop the tears from flowing. We are beyond humbled and incredibly grateful for this precious opportunity to welcome a son into our family, a brother for our girls. The adventure now continues with the exciting, and sometimes daunting, task of figuring out names for our sweet baby boy!
Looking Ahead: Gratitude and Anticipation
As we close this chapter of our pregnancy journey at 20 weeks, our hearts are full – full of love, full of hope, and full of immense gratitude. The path with Hyperemesis Gravidarum has been challenging, but it has also taught us profound lessons about resilience, perspective, and the boundless joy that follows perseverance. We are so excited to continue preparing for the arrival of our baby boy, cherishing every kick, every milestone, and every moment leading up to the day we finally get to hold him in our arms. Thank you for being a part of our story and for all your unwavering support. We can’t wait to share more as our journey unfolds.
