How to Make Reese’s Krispies Bars

Making these Reese’s Krispies Bars is incredibly straightforward, solidifying their status as a favorite no-bake dessert. The process is designed for maximum flavor with minimal effort. Follow these simple steps to create your own batch of irresistible treats:

  • In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and creamy peanut butter over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture is smooth and all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Ensure there are no sugar granules remaining.
  • Once smooth and melted, immediately remove the pan from the heat. This prevents the mixture from overheating, which can make the treats hard.
  • Working quickly, add the marshmallow fluff, a pinch of salt, and the Rice Krispies cereal to the warm mixture. Gently fold and stir until the cereal is evenly coated. Be careful not to crush the cereal too much, as you want to maintain that signature crispy texture.
  • Next, add the chocolate chips. Stir them in gently. The residual warmth from the mixture should be enough to slightly soften or melt the chocolate chips, allowing them to distribute nicely without fully dissolving.
  • Finally, fold in the mini marshmallows and almost all of the chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Reserve about 4-5 chopped Reese’s for sprinkling on top as a garnish. Fold gently to incorporate everything without mashing the marshmallows or candy.
  • Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal. Lightly spray the parchment paper with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  • Pour the warm mixture into the prepared pan. Use a rubber spatula (lightly sprayed with cooking spray to prevent sticking) to spread the mixture evenly into the pan, pressing it down gently but firmly.
  • Generously sprinkle the reserved chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups over the top of the bars. Lightly press them into the surface.
  • Allow the treats to cool completely to room temperature before slicing and serving. This ensures they set properly and are easy to cut.
  • Once cooled, slice into squares and DE-VOUR!

What Size Peanut Butter Cups Should I Use?

The beauty of this recipe is its flexibility! You can use any size of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups you prefer. However, we often recommend using the mini Reese’s cups as they require less chopping, saving you a bit of prep time. If you only have full-sized peanut butter cups on hand, simply chop them into smaller, bite-sized pieces before adding them to the mixture. The goal is to have those delightful pockets of peanut butter and chocolate evenly distributed throughout the treats. Ultimately, go with whatever is most convenient or offers the best value!

How to Store Reese’s Krispies Bars

To keep these delicious Reese’s Krispies Bars fresh and gooey, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. They will remain wonderfully soft and enjoyable for 2-3 days. For best results, place a piece of parchment paper between layers if stacking to prevent them from sticking together. Avoid refrigerating, as this can make the treats hard and less appealing.

Can I Freeze Them?

Absolutely! These Reese’s Rice Krispies Treats freeze exceptionally well, making them perfect for meal prep or saving for a future craving. Once the bars have cooled completely to room temperature, cut them into individual squares. Place the cut bars in a single layer on a baking sheet and pop them into the freezer for a couple of hours until solid. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe ziplock bag or airtight container, separating layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking. When you’re ready to enjoy, simply take them out of the freezer and let them thaw on the counter for about 30 minutes. They’ll be as good as new!

Can I Use a Different Candy Bar?

You bet! While Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are phenomenal, this recipe is a fantastic canvas for your favorite candy bars. Feel free to experiment and customize to your heart’s content! Here are some other delightful options that would work wonderfully:

  • Snickers: Adds nougat, caramel, and peanuts for a chewy, nutty twist.
  • Milky Way: Brings a rich caramel and nougat experience.
  • Butterfinger: Offers a unique crunchy, peanut-buttery texture.
  • Twix: Introduces a satisfying cookie crunch with caramel and chocolate.
  • Take 5: For those who love pretzels, caramel, peanut butter, and chocolate—all in one!
  • Heath Bar: Adds a delightful toffee crunch.
  • Kit Kat: For a lighter, crispy chocolate wafer addition.
  • M&M’s: Provides colorful chocolate bursts and a fun crunch.

Simply chop your chosen candy bar into small pieces and fold them into the mixture as you would the Reese’s. The possibilities are endless!

Can I Use a Different Cereal in This Recipe?

You rebel, you! Making rice krispies treats with something other than Rice Krispies… unthinkable? Totally joking! Of course, you can absolutely use any cereal you have on hand or whichever you like best to create unique variations of these no-bake bars. Changing the cereal can dramatically alter the flavor and texture profile, offering a whole new dessert experience. Here are a few creative ideas to get you started:

  • Reese’s Puffs: Doubles down on the peanut butter and chocolate flavor for an even more intense Reese’s experience.
  • Cocoa Puffs: Transforms them into a rich, chocolatey indulgence.
  • Cheerios (Original or Honey Nut): Offers a slightly healthier, oaty twist with a hint of honey.
  • Chocolate Cheerios: Combines the oat goodness with chocolatey flavor.
  • Peanut Butter Cheerios: Enhances the peanut butter notes of the treats.
  • Cocoa Pebbles: For a vibrant, fruity, and chocolatey crunch.
  • Frosted Flakes: Adds a classic sweet, cornflake crunch.
  • Golden Grahams: Infuses a delicious graham cracker flavor, reminiscent of s’mores.
  • Chocolate Chex: Provides a robust chocolate flavor with a crisp texture.
  • Peanut Butter Chex: Another great option to boost the peanut butter profile.
  • Rice Chex: A gluten-free alternative that maintains a similar light crispiness.
  • Corn Chex: Offers a slightly different, mild corn flavor and crisp texture.
