Ingredient Spotlight: Can You Substitute Biscoff for Peanut Butter in Cookies?

The question of substituting Biscoff spread for peanut butter is a common one, especially for those with peanut allergies or simply seeking a flavor variation. The good news is, in many cookie recipes, Biscoff can indeed be a successful substitute. However, there’s a crucial factor to consider: fat content.

If peanut butter is a primary source of fats in the original recipe, you’ll generally find Biscoff to be a suitable alternative because it has a similar fat profile. To ensure the best results, we recommend comparing the fat content listed on the nutrition labels of both your chosen peanut butter and Biscoff spread. If they are relatively close, you should be able to make the swap without major adjustments to the other ingredients.

It’s worth noting that while Biscoff provides a delightful, unique flavor, it can sometimes be slightly sweeter and have a thinner consistency than some peanut butters. You might notice a subtle difference in the cookie’s final texture or spread, but generally, it will still yield a delicious outcome. For classic applications like sandwiches, Biscoff is an excellent, straightforward substitute for peanut butter, offering that same creamy, rich spreadability.

Baking Basics: Can You Use Salted Butter in Recipes Calling for Unsalted Butter?

This is another common baking dilemma! In most cases, if your recipe specifically calls for unsalted butter but you only have salted on hand, you can absolutely make the substitution. The key is to adjust the amount of added salt in the rest of the recipe.

Salted butter typically contains about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt per 1/2 cup (one stick) of butter. Therefore, if you use salted butter, simply omit or significantly reduce any additional salt specified in the recipe. For instance, if a recipe calls for 1/2 cup unsalted butter and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and you use salted butter, you might completely leave out the 1/2 teaspoon of salt. For recipes where salt plays a critical role in balancing sweetness, or if you’re particularly sensitive to salt, you might start by reducing the added salt by half and adjust to taste in future batches. Using unsalted butter offers more control over the overall saltiness of your baked goods, which is why many professional bakers prefer it, but it’s not a strict barrier to delicious results.

Smart Storage: Can Peanut Butter Cookies Be Frozen?

Absolutely! Freezing peanut butter cookies is a fantastic way to extend their shelf life and ensure you always have a delightful treat on hand. Both baked cookies and raw cookie dough can be frozen successfully.

For baked cookies, ensure they have cooled completely before freezing. To prevent them from sticking together, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet, making sure they aren’t touching, and freeze them until solid. Once frozen solid, transfer the cookies to a freezer-safe, airtight bag or container. This method, often called “flash freezing,” helps preserve their shape and prevents them from developing freezer burn. Properly stored, frozen baked peanut butter cookies can last for up to 3 months.

When you’re ready to enjoy them, simply take them out of the freezer and let them thaw at room temperature for about 15-30 minutes, or warm them slightly in the microwave for that fresh-from-the-oven experience. For raw dough, roll it into individual balls as if preparing to bake, then flash freeze. Once solid, transfer to a freezer bag and bake from frozen, adding a minute or two to the baking time.

These are the best peanut butter cookies I’ve ever had. Peanut Butter Meltaway Cookies are soft peanut butter cookies, stuffed with chocolate and rolled in cinnamon sugar!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 Cup Cinnamon Sugar , for rolling
  • 1/2 Cup Peanut Butter, creamy
  • 1/2 Cup Butter, softened, unsalted
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup White Sugar
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 1/4 Cup Flour
  • 1 1/2 Cups Hersheys Meltaway Chocolates
US Customary – Metric

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175°C).
  • In a small, shallow bowl, combine the cinnamon sugar for rolling. Set this aside.
    1/3 Cup Cinnamon Sugar
  • Using a standing mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the creamy peanut butter, softened unsalted butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. Mix on medium-high speed for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is light, fluffy, and creamy.
1/2 Cup Peanut Butter, 1/2 Cup Butter, 1/2 Cup White Sugar, 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • Crack in the large egg and add the vanilla extract. Mix on low speed until just combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
1 Large Egg, 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
  • In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the baking soda, baking powder, salt, and flour. Gradually add these dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in the mixer, with the mixer running on low speed. Mix until the flour is just incorporated and no dry streaks remain. Be careful not to overmix. Turn off the mixer.
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda, 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder, 1/2 teaspoon Salt, 1 1/4 Cup Flour
  • Take a tablespoon-sized amount of cookie dough and gently flatten it in the palm of your hand. Place one Hershey’s Meltaway Chocolate (or a similar chocolate wafer) in the center of the flattened dough. Carefully fold the edges of the dough over the chocolate, completely enclosing it. Then, roll the dough into a smooth ball.
1 1/2 Cups Hersheys Meltaway Chocolates
  • Roll each dough ball generously in the prepared cinnamon sugar mixture, ensuring an even coating. Place the coated cookie dough balls about 2 inches apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    1/3 Cup Cinnamon Sugar
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are still soft. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. These cookies are absolutely best when eaten warm, allowing the chocolate center to remain perfectly melty!
