Designing Our Dream Office: A Vision Brought to Life
As many of you know, this office project was a fantastic collaboration with MasterBrand Cabinets. From the very beginning, we envisioned a space that felt open, airy, and inviting, a stark contrast to the drab, empty room it once was. The choice of crisp white cabinetry played a pivotal role in achieving this aesthetic. White cabinetry acts as a magnificent canvas, allowing the vibrant colors and rich textures we incorporated throughout the room to truly pop and command attention. It creates a serene backdrop that enhances every decorative element.
We specifically opted for Diamond Cabinets, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the quality and finish. Beyond their stunning appearance, these cabinets possess an incredibly silky and smooth texture – a detail that might sound unusual to highlight, but it genuinely adds to the luxurious feel of the space. The tactile experience of interacting with them is surprisingly pleasant. To complement the pristine white, we selected gorgeous Champagne accents from Atlas Homewares for the hardware, adding a touch of sophisticated warmth and elegance that ties the entire look together.
Maximizing Space and Light with Thoughtful Cabinetry Design
One design decision that initially felt a bit daring was extending the cabinetry all the way to the ceiling. Given the room’s modest size, there was a concern that this approach might make the space feel smaller or more enclosed. However, the effect was quite the opposite. This vertical extension not only creates an impressive visual statement, drawing the eye upwards and elongating the room, but it also offers incredible storage capacity. And a bonus we quickly discovered: no more dusty cabinet tops to clean! This clever design choice significantly enhances both the functionality and perceived spaciousness of our new office.
The Perfect Hue: Choosing Sherwin-Williams Alabaster
Ah, the paint! The selection process for our wall color involved much deliberation and many “this or that” moments. After careful consideration and numerous samples, we ultimately settled on Sherwin-Williams Alabaster. This particular shade of white is a true gem. Unlike stark, cool whites that can sometimes feel sterile or uninviting, Alabaster boasts a beautiful underlying warmth. This subtle creaminess ensures the room feels cozy and welcoming, steering clear of any “hospital-like” coldness – a feeling I’m sure many of you can relate to wanting to avoid in a home setting.
The quality of Sherwin-Williams paint is exceptional. It provides excellent coverage, resists dirt and scuffs, and most importantly, it serves as the ideal, soft backdrop for all the vibrant pops of color and diverse textures we’ve introduced. Sherwin-Williams generously provided the paint, and without a doubt, it has proven to be precisely the right choice for creating the serene yet lively atmosphere we desired in our new office.
Adding Character: Vintage Finds and Personal Touches
To infuse the office with a sense of history and unique charm, we embarked on a treasure hunt at our local DI, similar to a Goodwill. There, we discovered an array of old books, which now gracefully adorn our shelves. These vintage finds, with their worn covers and classic appeal, add wonderful feeling and rich texture to the room, creating a more inviting and lived-in atmosphere compared to stark, shiny new books. They tell a story, sparking curiosity and conversation among visitors.
Among these old treasures, we discovered a darling, handwritten letter tucked inside one of the books. There’s something truly special about a handwritten note, especially one beginning with “Dear Mother.” It immediately struck us as a piece of history worth preserving. This little find has become a wonderful talking point, as everyone who sees it is curious about its origin and the story it holds. It adds an unexpected layer of personal warmth and intrigue to our office.
