60+ Salvinia Minima Water Spangles — Floating Live Aquarium Plants
Product description
What you receive: a collection of 60+ living Salvinia Minima leaves (Water Spangles), delivered as live plant material ready to float on arrival.
Material and form: these are live aquatic fern plants with delicate, velvety leaves that naturally float and interlock to form a low, dense mat. Individual plants are small and multiply rapidly, producing a carpet-like surface layer.
Dimensions and growth: each leaflet is tiny, and together the bundle covers surface area quickly as new ramets develop. Under favorable light and nutrient conditions they spread across the water and can cover large portions of tanks, ponds, or containers.
How to use: simply place the plants on the water surface in aquariums, planted tanks, terrariums with open water, or small water gardens. They are suitable for freshwater and slightly brackish water systems. Provide medium to high lighting for best growth and occasional nutrient supplementation if desired. These plants offer shade, breeding sites, and shelter for fish and invertebrates. Note: because they multiply fast, occasional thinning or a physical barrier is recommended to prevent complete surface coverage.
Pros
- Rapid surface coverage
- Low maintenance in proper light
- Works in freshwater and brackish setups
Cons
- Can overrun open water if not managed
- May be eaten by some fish species
- Requires regular thinning for large tanks
VerdictA pack of 60+ living Water Spangles provides fast-establishing surface cover that’s simple to maintain. These tiny floating ferns create a lush carpet, tolerate freshwater and mildly brackish water, and prefer medium–high light. They establish quickly and offer habitat and shade for fish, though they can spread aggressively if unchecked. Great for hobbyists wanting natural surface plants with mini

Completely covered my tank
Ordered these in summer and they now blanket most of my 45‑gal. They grow with almost no attention; I’ll be giving extras away to friends.

Fish-friendly but fast spreaders
Healthy little plants that my fish enjoy. They spread quickly — recommend using a barrier if you want to contain them.

Fresh, tiny, and vigorous
They arrived green and fresh. Start small but expand over time, no off-odors, and overall high quality.

Thrives in ponds — watch the growth
Came with another order and both were healthy with good roots. In my still pond they ballooned quickly with no fish; in a pond with koi and current they stayed in check. Koi nibble them occasionally, and surface motion helps control overgrowth.

Healthy plants and rapid delivery
Arrived sooner than expected and were packed well. Lots of healthy spangles — I split them between a 20G guppy tank and a 40G community tank. The guppies loved hiding under them. Watching them expand now is fun!
