Root Tabs — Aquarium Plant Fertilizer Tablets (100-Pack)
Product description
First-time users: begin at roughly 80% of the suggested dosing and observe plant response for several weeks before moving to the full recommendation. The dosing guideline is to position one tablet with at least a 5-inch gap between tabs along the tank floor — for reference, use about 5 tabs in a 5-gallon tank and roughly 10 in a 10-gallon tank. Adjust by one or two tabs depending on how densely planted your aquarium is.
Formula and safety: the tablets follow an NPK ratio of 1:0.5:2.8 — relatively low in nitrogen and phosphorus and higher in potassium, which helps avoid nutrient overloads that can degrade water quality. They contain trace minerals (examples include manganese and zinc) delivered in a controlled-release matrix. When used as recommended, the product is formulated to be safe for both fish and shrimp.
Root-targeted delivery: these tablets are designed to sit in the substrate near the plant base so nutrients are taken up by roots rather than released primarily into the water column. You may notice a light white clouding at times; this is normal and results from very small particles of slow-release trace elements dispersing to provide a steady supply.
Slow-release performance: each tablet is formulated to dispense nutrients progressively over approximately two to three months. That gradual release helps prevent abrupt changes in water chemistry and reduces the need for frequent re-dosing.
Package and coverage: each tablet weighs about 1.0 gram and the kit contains 100 tablets. One tablet will approximately service 25 square inches of substrate, making this set suitable for small nano tanks up through larger planted aquariums depending on placement pattern and plant coverage.
How to apply: tablets sink rapidly and should be placed around plant roots or along the tank perimeter in a grid pattern, spacing them every 5–6 inches. Press each tablet about 1 inch into the substrate so it remains in contact with the root zone. If you are uncertain about dosing, err on the side of fewer tablets rather than more.
Maintenance and replacement: monitor plant health and water clarity; replace tablets every two to four months or as plant response indicates. If plants are very dense or show increased demand, adjust the number of tablets incrementally.
What’s included: 100 slow-release root fertilizer tablets (1.0g each) containing macro nutrients per the stated NPK ratio and trace elements designed for substrate delivery.
Pros
- Root-based, slow-release nutrient delivery
- Low N and P with higher potassium helps water quality
- 100 tablets per pack and 1.0g per tab for long coverage
Cons
- Can be hazardous if fish ingest tablets
- Requires correct spacing and placement to avoid overdosing
- May produce light white suspension during release
VerdictThese root tablets deliver steady, root-targeted nutrition in a convenient 100-pack. The 1.0g slow-release pellets release nutrients over 2–3 months, help establish stronger roots and avoid sudden water swings, and are suitable for nano to larger planted tanks when dosed properly. Exercise care with placement to avoid fish ingestion.

Plants respond quickly
Much less expensive than some other options and the plants clearly benefited — that’s the main reason I keep using them.

Stays near the root zone
They don’t dissolve right away and seem to feed plants at the base, helping my greenery remain rooted and healthy.

Fast visible change
Placed a few tablets and within hours the plants appeared perkier and fresher.

Dependable growth boost
Simple to place and my plants showed stronger growth without any apparent harm to fish or shrimp. The 100-count lasts a long time and suits a planted setup well.

Happy with results
Easy to use root tabs and my aquatic plants have noticeably improved in growth. No problems so far.

Effective but dose carefully
They do their job, but I overused them at first and clouded the water. After reducing the number, roots improved and the tablets stayed intact. I’ll be repurchasing.

Risk if tablets are eaten
My fish dug one up and several died after chewing it. If your fish disturb the substrate a lot, consider a different approach—ingestion can be dangerous.
