Aurora AU870MA 8-Sheet Micro-Cut Paper & Credit Card Shredder — Black
Product description
What’s included: one Aurora AU870MA micro-cut shredder with integrated 3.9‑gallon pull-out wastebasket and user manual. The unit accepts standard paper, small receipts and credit cards.
Cut and security: this cross-cut shredder reduces documents and cards to approximately 5/32" x 15/32" pieces, meeting a P-4 security level suitable for personal and small-business confidential material.
Capacity and feed: the throat measures 8.7 inches across and the cutters are rated for up to 8 sheets of standard copy paper fed at once; for smoother, continuous shredding many users find inserting 3–4 sheets at a time keeps the motor running efficiently. The unit offers auto start and a manual Reverse function to clear misfeeds.
Duty cycle and protection: the motor supports about five minutes of continuous operation before thermal protection engages. When the thermal cutoff trips, the unit automatically shuts down and an overheat LED alerts the user until it cools. The shredder also has an interlock that prevents operation unless the wastebasket is properly seated.
Physical details: compact black housing with top-mounted cutters and a removable 3.9‑gallon collection bin. Aurora backs the product with a one-year limited warranty.
Pros
- Effective micro-cut shredding to P-4 level
- Compact with a sizable 3.9‑gal pull-out bin
- Auto start, reverse function and thermal protection
Cons
- Best performance with smaller stacks (3–4 sheets)
- Five-minute duty cycle limits long continuous runs
- Bin design could be more robust
VerdictA solid, budget-friendly micro-cut unit that balances security and everyday convenience. It reliably shreds paper, receipts and credit cards into P-4 level fragments and includes a roomy bin and safety interlocks. Best results come from feeding smaller stacks (3–4 sheets) at a time for continuous operation; heavy batches will trigger the five-minute duty cycle and the thermal shutdown, which prote

Makes tidy confetti — use lubricant occasionally
Produces fine shreds. If you run eight sheets it sounds like it’s working hard, but it gets through them. Applying shredder lubricant helps keep it running smoothly.

Sturdy performer — highly recommended
Dependable workhorse. I’ve used this since 2021 and shredded many large loads without trouble. Solid unit — would buy again.

Functional and arrives in good condition
Shreds well and arrived intact. The automatic overheat protection engages after sustained use, but otherwise everything works fine so far.

Long-lasting and trouble-free
Owned for over four years and still performs well despite infrequent use. No jams or struggles; it has shredded cards and large documents reliably. The cross-cut pieces are small and I’d buy the same model again.

Great shredding mechanism, weak bin design
Replaced a reliable strip-cut model to get cross-cut security for years of records. The shredder itself is strong: the top handle supports the weight easily, the reverse function clears residue, and a safety switch prevents operation unless the bin is properly seated. If not overfilled it lifts off cleanly. It can go a long time between emptying (roughly 200 letter pages for my use) and handles staples and chip cards without issue.

Improved performance and fine cutting
Much better than our prior shredder. The feed slot is a good size and the blades stay sharp; it accepts several sheets and produces very small pieces that are hard to reassemble. Because the clippings compact, the bin holds more between emptying.

Works reliably for home use
I use it at home to dispose of confidential documents and cards safely. No issues to report so far and it handles sensitive items effectively.

Small gem — performs like a pro
Pleasantly surprised by its output and the tiny size of the shredded pieces. After 30 minutes of use it still performed admirably. I keep it in good condition with lubricant and its large bin is helpful.

Does the job, just feed smaller stacks
Very happy overall. Although rated for eight sheets, it runs smoother with 3–4 sheets inserted at a time; you can feed those batches back-to-back while the cutters run. The motor handles long jobs but will overheat after heavy use — it took around 30–40 minutes of continuous shredding before it needed to cool. When it shuts down, any paper in the throat stops until the unit cools and you can resume. The safety interlock requires the provided bin, which fills at a reasonable rate so you’re not emptying it constantly.

Affordable, attractive and dependable
One of the best shredders I’ve owned. The basket supports the unit well and lubricant sheets help after heavy use. It runs in long bursts (10–15 minutes) for me, cuts to small P-4 pieces, and has stayed reliable over more than a year and thousands of sheets.

Small but powerful
Bought for a home office to replace an older strip-cut machine. It’s more compact than expected but very effective. The top can warm up with long sessions, but I haven’t hit the automatic shutoff yet. Cross-cutting feels secure and a small sensor recognizes receipts and starts the motor appropriately.

Reliable after a year of regular use
We shred often and this replaced a 15-year-old machine. Simple controls and very durable so far — it handled a huge clearing of old files without jamming. The cross-cut pellets pack down well in garbage bags and performed consistently.

Exceeded expectations for heavy clearing
My previous unit died and I had many papers to process. This model worked quickly and the cross-cutting is a security upgrade from strip-cut. It only required a single cool-down break during a long session and the overheat indicator is helpful. Compact yet holds a surprising amount.
