Hogue Bantam Rubber Grip for S&W K/L Frame Round-Butt Revolvers — Black
Product description
These Bantam-style grips are molded from high-quality rubber and finished with Hogue’s cobblestone texture to improve traction in wet or sweaty conditions. The package includes a pair of left/right grip panels plus the small wedge/installation tool used to spread the rear of the grip during fitting.
The bantam profile is deliberately slim and lightweight, made for concealment on K- and L-frame revolvers with a round butt. The contours include a modest palm swell and finger groove shaping to promote a natural hand position and better control during shooting. The grips mount by sliding the frame into the grooves and using the wedge to expand the rear section — no separate grip screw is required on most models.
Built to withstand daily carry and range use, the rubber compound resists wear while keeping the surface comfortable over repeated firing. The reduced bulk behind the cylinder also helps extraction and speed-loader engagement on many revolvers, and the overall fit offers a more secure purchase than many thin factory stocks.
Pros
- Aggressive cobblestone texture for secure purchase
- Slim bantam profile ideal for concealed carry
- Includes wedge/tool for fast, screw-free installation
Cons
- Exposed backstrap can make heavy .357 loads uncomfortable
- May feel small for very large hands
- Backstrap exposure changes the revolver’s appearance
VerdictA practical upgrade for medium-frame Smith & Wesson revolvers: the Bantam rubber grips deliver a secure, comfortable hold and a slim profile suited to concealed carry. Installation is straightforward with the supplied wedge/tool and the fit is consistently snug. Be aware the open backstrap design can transmit strong recoil from full-power .357 Magnum loads — excellent for most defensive and everyd

Simple install and rock-solid on the gun
Installation was quick and they are immovable once in place. The palm swell and finger grooves match my hand well. I now put Bantams on all my carry pieces.

Dependable Hogue quality
Hogue as expected — great fit and appearance. Comfortable in the hand and I’ll buy these again for other revolvers.

Comfortable, easy to fit
Very nice grips with clear instructions and the little tool included. They match my revolver perfectly, feel secure in the hand, and aren’t slippery. Wish I’d installed them years earlier.

Transformed my Smith 686
Replaced the factory wood Deluxe grips and the revolver finally feels right. Trigger and hammer are easier to reach, and the exposed backstrap gives a distinctive look I like.

Perfect fit on my 2.5" 686
Bought these for my 2.5" Model 686 and they looked small at first, but they slide on and fit exactly. The panels provide full finger purchase despite the compact profile and stay put without a grip screw. Very well designed and I’m very happy with them.

Authentic quality and perfect fit (Japanese user)
As expected from the real thing — fit my Tanaka model gun precisely and the grip clings to the hand nicely. Very good overall.

Excellent! (Japanese user)
Fitted to a Tanaka M19. Both the look and the feel are superb — comfortable and very satisfying to hold.

Functional choice for defensive use
Better grip for defensive tasks with improved clearance for extracting empties. The slimmer section behind the cylinder speeds extraction and makes speed-loader engagement easier while still allowing a full-hand grasp for concealment.

Skeptical at first, now convinced (Italian user)
Bought them wary, but I changed my mind — very comfortable. Might be a touch small for very large hands, but they mount easily and stabilize aim; good for improving targeted shooting.

Great for CCW but punishing with heavy magnums
Affordable and more concealable than factory stocks, fits well and fills the frame gap nicely. However, the exposed backstrap means full-power .357 loads kick harshly — fine for .38s, painful for heavy magnums if you’re recoil sensitive.

Great grip — ordered the wrong frame type
The product feels excellent, but I bought the round-butt version for a square-frame original 586. Live and learn; an exchange to the square model would solve it.

Fixed a broken factory grip
My factory grip’s plastic tower failed, so I tried these. They were easy to fit with the provided wedge, match the frame well, and feel great even with moist hands. Very pleased.

Best medium-frame upgrade I’ve used
Owning a Performance Center 586 on a K-frame, I found the factory wood only allowed two fingers. Installation is a minute with the included tool: open the grips, slide the frame in, and use the wedge to spread the rear. The finger grooves help control and the slim rear still exposes the backstrap.
