National Geographic Chemistry Set — 45 Hands-On Experiments for Kids
Product description
An activity-driven chemistry kit designed for children roughly 8 to 12 years old. The box provides materials and instructions to complete 45 different experiments, including a build-and-erupt volcano, a soda-jet geyser, a small rocket launch, and a range of fizzing, bubbling and color-changing reactions. The kit supplies measured reagent packets, plastic tubing and containers, assorted plastic components and molds, plus basic lab tools to set up and run each project.
Every experiment is paired with an illustrated, kid-friendly manual that explains each step and offers a brief explanation of the science behind the reaction. Instructions guide users through preparation, mixing proportions, assembly of models and safe execution of each activity. The guide aims to teach simple laboratory habits — measuring, observing, recording results and discussing why the reactions behave as they do.
Materials are made from common toy-grade plastics and single-use reagent portions intended for household experiments; many additional household items (water, dish soap, etc.) are used for multiple activities. Some plastic molds and larger pieces arrive as multiple parts to be assembled during setup. Activities are intended for supervised play and practice of basic safety, such as keeping reactions away from faces and cleaning up after experiments.
Developed by Blue Marble, an award-winning toy maker focused on educational products, the kit is positioned as a stepping-stone into STEM learning. It’s built to encourage curiosity and repeated exploration rather than professional laboratory use, making it suitable for classroom demonstrations, homeschool projects or at-home science evenings with family or friends.
Pros
- Wide variety of 45 hands-on experiments
- Clear illustrated instructions for kids
- Great introduction to basic chemistry and scientific method
Cons
- Some activities milder than box art implies
- Certain plastic molds need fiddly assembly
- Reagent portions intended for single runs
VerdictThis chemistry set delivers a lot of playful learning: many engaging experiments, clear step-by-step illustrations, and components suitable for supervised home use. Most activities are mild but educational, fostering the scientific method and curiosity. A few experiments are less dramatic than the packaging suggests and some molded parts require assembly, yet overall it’s a strong choice for intro

Works across a wide age gap
I homeschool a teen and a kindergartener and both can join in. The instructions are easy to follow and many experiments are fun. Some activities didn't turn out perfectly, which made for good troubleshooting and learning together.

Grandkids had fun but some parts underwhelm
Bought this for my 5-year-old grandson and we tried a few activities outdoors with all the grandkids helping. The chemicals are mild but I recommend goggles if multiple children are present. The kids enjoyed most experiments, though results are more restrained than the pictures suggest. The included volcano mold comes in three wall pieces plus a base and a rubber band; the seams don’t clamp tightly, which was frustrating.

Excellent introductory chemistry kit
I love this kit for introducing young children to chemistry. It includes several experiments and the extra household supplies needed are easy to find. Each activity has a straightforward explanation so both parents and kids can understand what’s happening.

Fun but language can be a barrier
Materials are good quality and the activities are interesting, but the manual is only in English, which can be difficult for a child who doesn’t know the language well.

Good experiments but limited chemical quantities
Easy, impactful experiments overall. The chemical portions feel a bit small but are usually enough to run each activity once. All instructions are in English.
