The Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd generation) is a programmable smart thermostat with a circular face and a stainless‑steel trim that complements modern interiors. The package centers on the thermostat unit and mounting base; additional accessories such as the Nest Temperature Sensor are sold separately.
This model learns your preferred temperatures and daily rhythms, then creates a schedule automatically so you don’t have to program it manually. Home/Away Assist shifts the system to an Eco Temperature when the house is empty, and you can override settings at any time from the thermostat itself or remotely via the Nest app on a phone, tablet, or laptop.
Energy History displays recent usage so you can see how much heating or cooling occurred and why. The thermostat’s display includes Quick View shortcuts for Energy History, schedule, and settings, and a Leaf icon appears when you select an energy‑saving temperature.
Built‑in HVAC monitoring watches for irregular behavior in compatible heating and cooling systems and can send an alert if something seems off, plus reminders for routine maintenance. These alerts are informational and are not a substitute for a professional HVAC diagnosis.
Voice control is supported via compatible assistants, allowing hands‑free temperature changes with a linked device. Remote control, mobile notifications, and voice features require a working internet connection and Wi‑Fi.
Independent studies have reported average savings around 10–12% on heating and about 15% on cooling; based on typical costs those studies estimated annual savings in the low hundreds of dollars. Actual savings depend on usage patterns, weather, and other variables and are not guaranteed.
Nest Renew compatibility and features require this model or select other Nest thermostats and a connected Google account; availability depends on local grid and utility programs. Adjustments made by Renew shift when electricity is used rather than eliminating usage.
