Heated Snow-Melting Mat Starter Kit — Walkway & Stair Mats
Product description
What the kit provides — This starter package contains one 20" x 60" heated walkway mat, two 10" x 30" heated stair treads, a power unit to drive the system, and a cable extender for added reach.
Construction and durability — The mats are constructed from a corrosion-resistant, weather-tolerant material intended to remain outdoors through the season. They’re designed to stand up to repeated freeze-thaw cycles and routine winter exposure.
Performance and power — HeatTrak mats melt snow at approximately 2" (5 cm) per hour. Each 10" x 30" stair mat pulls about 0.7 amps, so overall energy use is modest compared with larger embedded systems.
Installation and upkeep — The mats install quickly and need minimal maintenance: lay them on the surface, plug in, and let them manage snow and ice without frequent shoveling or heavy use of ice melt.
Warranty — All units are covered by a two-year manufacturer warranty starting from shipment date, providing repair or replacement if a defect arises within that period.

- Low power draw—each stair tread ~0.7 amps
- Rugged, corrosion-resistant construction
Cons
- Black connection cables are conspicuous
- Interconnect cords can be short and may pose a trip risk
- Coverage is limited for larger walkways
VerdictA complete setup for keeping a short walkway and a few steps clear in winter. The kit supplies the mats, a dedicated power module and an extender so you can position treads where needed. The mats are built to tolerate winter conditions, melt snow at roughly 2" per hour, and the small amp draw makes them energy-conscious. Expect visible black cables and limited mat coverage for larger areas, but fo

Works in extreme cold
Used them in -40 conditions and they kept the snow away. Great for the path to our hot tub.

Handles very cold weather
In Minnesota they performed reliably and kept our porch clear. We used two kits and also placed mats near the hot tub — exiting in winter is far more comfortable now.

Saves worry about icy steps
I added these to our entry and plan to get more for the path. They stopped my usual ice-melting routine and I felt much safer having guests over. The cords are a bit bulky and stand out on snow, but overall the extra safety was worth it.

Quality but design trade-offs
Construction is sturdy, but the mats are smaller than expected and the short connector cord can be a trip concern. Not ideal if you need larger coverage.

Truly helpful after a fall
After a bad fall last year these were a lifesaver. They draw little power and prevent snow and ice buildup. Very satisfied.
