Proxicast ProGrade 230V Coaxial Lightning Arrester — 75Ω F-F Inline Protector
Product description
This coaxial lightning arrester is a single inline module supplied with F-type female connectors on both ends to mate with common coax runs. It accepts standard 75 Ω cable types — RG6, RG59, RG8X and RG11 — and is intended to be placed inline between the incoming antenna/cable and the device (modem, tuner, amplifier or booster).
The unit features a 230V gas discharge tube at its core that clamps high-voltage transients and shunts surge energy to ground. The housing is a rugged metal body with outdoor weatherproofing designed for in-line use, and the internal gas tube provides multi-strike capability: it conducts on surges to protect downstream equipment and is replaceable after heavy events.
Electrical specs emphasize very low RF insertion loss across 0–3 GHz, 75 Ω impedance continuity and DC pass-through for powering active antennas or amplifiers. Protection is bi-directional, so surges from either end are diverted to the grounding point. For reliable performance, install the device in the coax path and attach a dedicated ground conductor to a proper earth ground or grounding rod; trim and prepare the center conductor as required for a secure F-connector connection.
Pros
- Effective surge diversion with 230V gas discharge tube
- Low RF insertion loss across 0–3 GHz and DC pass-through
- Rugged outdoor-rated metal housing and F-type female ends
Cons
- Requires a proper dedicated ground to work effectively
- Gas tube is sacrificial and needs replacement after large strikes
- May cause audio interference on some VoIP/analog phone setups
VerdictA compact, well-built inline protector that reliably diverts damaging surges to ground while preserving RF performance. Ideal for TV, satellite, AM/FM and cable/internet lines and compatible 4G/5G outdoor antennas. Requires proper grounding and periodic replacement of the sacrificial gas element after a large strike. Some setups may introduce audio interference with VoIP analog handsets, so test i

Handy protection for our coax lines
Good surge protector for coax networks. It performed as expected on our setup and provides an extra layer of safety for connected equipment.

Solid build saved our router, with one caveat
The housing is sturdy aluminum and the coax fits tightly. During a recent storm this and a protected power adapter kept our router intact. One downside: it introduced interference on landline audio through our VoIP setup, so check voice gear after installation.

Sturdy construction and easy to install
Well-made unit. Installation was straightforward once I trimmed the center conductor on my antenna cable; the extra length had made attachment tricky. Hoping I never have to rely on it, but it feels solid.

Stopped equipment failures after a storm
A recent lightning strike wiped out my modem and router before I added this arrester. Since installing it and grounding the coax correctly, nothing has been harmed. It’s given me real peace of mind and has so far prevented costly replacements.

Stopped lightning from spreading into devices
We lost monitors and a docking station once when surge entered through the coax. Even though the cable company had grounded the feed, damage still occurred. This inline unit not only grounds the line but uses a gas tube that conducts on a surge to stop it. I added a new grounding rod and copper lead, and purchased spare gas elements to replace any that fire.
