Sennheiser E 835-S — Dynamic Cardioid Vocal Microphone with Switch
Product description
This handheld dynamic vocal microphone ships as the microphone unit with an integrated on/off switch on the barrel for quick muting.
Built from robust metal throughout, the capsule is housed in a durable grille and a rugged metal body that stands up to stage use. Inside, an internal shock-mount system reduces handling noise for cleaner live performance.
The transducer offers a slight presence boost for intelligibility and projection, with a reduced proximity effect so bass response remains controlled whether you sing close or a little farther from the capsule. The pickup is cardioid, giving good isolation from off-axis sounds and strong rejection of feedback, which makes it suitable for louder monitor and PA setups.
Electrical specs include a frequency response spanning approximately 40 Hz to 16 kHz and an output impedance around 350 ohms. It’s aimed at general-purpose vocal and instrument miking — ideal for club PA, stage vocals, and on-stage instrument use.
Pros

- Cardioid pattern delivers solid isolation and feedback rejection
- Integrated on/off switch for quick muting

Perfect for party karaoke
I run a large keyboard amp for family karaoke and passing the mic around caused feedback until I started using this one. The switch lets people pass it without causing squeal, and the vocal clarity is noticeably better than older handhelds.

Great sensitivity
These mics have good sensitivity for their class. Even when users don't hold the mic perfectly, it still picks up voices well and sounds clean when they get closer.

Mic sounds great, packaging not secure
The microphone performs excellently and the switch version is convenient. However, the retail box arrived without a security seal over the opening tab, which could allow tampering during transit.

Won over my audience
I switched from my usual mic at a gig and asked listeners which they preferred; they favored this one. It’s a hotter mic, so I had to lower preamp gain and tweak EQ, but the result was a clearer, more present vocal.
