Besan (Chickpea) Flour — 4 lb Finely Ground Gram Flour
Product description
This package contains one 4-pound (approx. 1.81 kg) bag of finely ground besan, also known as chickpea or gram flour. The product is milled from ground chickpeas and arrives in a sealed pouch to help preserve freshness.
The flour has a smooth, powdery texture suitable for a wide range of uses: making batters for frying, preparing panelle or pakora, baking cookies and flatbreads, thickening soups and sauces, or experimenting with homemade pasta. It works alone or blended with other flours and binders depending on the recipe.
Keep the bag stored in a cool, dry place; after opening, transfer to an airtight container or refrigerate for extended shelf life. Typical home kitchen measurements apply, and recipes may call for binders (xanthan gum, egg, or a small amount of all-purpose flour) when substituting for wheat flour in certain preparations.
Pros
- Fine, even grind
- Versatile nutty flavor
- Generous 4 lb quantity
Cons
- Origin may not be domestic
- No explicit gluten-free certification shown
- Can clump if exposed to moisture
VerdictA large, finely ground chickpea flour that performs well across sweet and savory recipes. The texture is consistently smooth and the nutty taste translates well into cookies, fritters, panelle and homemade pasta. Some buyers noted the origin isn't domestic, so check the label if that matters. Overall, a versatile pantry staple for those who cook with gram flour regularly.

Good for homemade chickpea pasta
Made a large batch of chickpea pasta and it turned out well. I added xanthan gum for elasticity and a little all-purpose flour to keep things from sticking while shaping.

Nutty flavor and fine grind
The texture is very fine and the flavor is pleasantly nutty. I used it for cookies and Sicilian-style panelle — both came out great. I'll buy it again.

Check the country of origin
I was looking for a U.S.-made option but this one isn't produced domestically. That was my oversight, so check the label if origin matters to you.
