ELEGOO Tough Black 3D Printer Resin — 2000 g
Product description
This product is supplied as a single 2000 g (2 kg) bottle of black photopolymer resin intended for resin-based 3D printers (LCD/DLP/SLA). The formula emphasizes mechanical toughness and elasticity while maintaining fine surface detail. It’s designed to be used in standard vat-based resin printers with appropriate exposure settings.
The material cures to a high Shore hardness (measured at approximately 84.7D), giving printed parts notable stiffness while retaining the ability to flex without shattering. Finished parts withstand drilling and other post-processing without cracking, making the material suitable for functional components and fixtures.
The resin shows boosted impact resistance and durability, so it’s appropriate for structural pieces, jigs, housings, tool components, and moveable elements. It also performs well for detailed models like miniatures and action figures thanks to its fine texture and resolution capability.
Formulated for improved environmental resistance, the cured parts resist brittleness, softening and corrosion even in humid conditions. The liquid has a low odor and is marketed as non-irritating, improving the printing environment compared with stronger-smelling formulations.
Typical uses include end-use parts, engineering prototypes, hangers, jigs and fixtures, tool elements, product casings, artistic projects and movable figures. Users should follow standard safety and post-processing workflows: wear gloves, post-cure under recommended light and temperature conditions, and clean parts with an appropriate solvent according to your printer manufacturer’s guidance.
Pros
- High impact resistance and recoverable flexibility
- Fine surface detail with drillable cured parts
- Low odor compared with many photopolymer resins
Cons
- Requires careful tuning for optimal exposure
- Thicker viscosity—may need warmer conditions
- Longer wash/cure times than some general-purpose resins
VerdictA durable, flexible resin aimed at engineering and hobbyist projects where strength and recoverable deformation matter. It cures to a hard, drillable finish with low smell and good weather resistance. Expect some tuning for optimal results, but it reliably produces strong, detailed prints once dialed in.

Handy for repairs around the house
Great for fabricating replacement pieces and practical parts. Cleans up well with recommended solvent—avoid leaving parts in the wash too long to prevent swelling.

Material strength is limited
Sturdy, but not as indestructible as some demo videos imply. Useful for some applications, but probably not ideal for heavy-impact pieces.

Very reliable and detailed
Consistently produces clear, highly detailed prints with no special profile changes. Works similarly across my different printers and yields strong parts.

Excellent for figures
Prints miniatures with crisp detail and solid mechanical properties. Performed very well for character models.

Durable and low-odor
Parts print cleanly and feel tough. I didn’t notice the strong smells I’ve experienced with other resins. Curious about heat tolerance for load-bearing parts.

Cures to a robust finish
The material isn’t brittle and produces durable results after full cure.

Worth upgrading for minis
High resolution and greater longevity for printed models. I find the investment justified for detailed miniatures.

Strong and easy to use
Lives up to its toughness claims and prints without fuss on my Saturn 4 Ultra. Very pleased with strength and detail.

Support response problems
Encountered poor print quality and support took too long to reply while I tried to return an item.

Powerful material but test first
There are published exposure suggestions for some high-res printers, but I got better, more consistent results by increasing exposure slightly. Folks giving low scores often haven’t run calibration tests; always test a small sample before committing to a project. The cured finish has a slight sheen that looks almost like acrylic after proper cleaning and curing. It’s viscous, so printing at room temps or a bit warmer helps. Overall excellent durability for minis and functional parts.

Solid general-purpose choice
Sharp results across different printers and straightforward cleaning compared with stronger-smelling alternatives. Reliable for everyday use.

Finicky but excellent for dental models
Used it for dental models on an older Mars 2 Pro. It’s thicker than standard washable resins and took trial-and-error to dial in settings, wasting some material. Cleaning and curing times were longer. Once adjusted, prints were very tough and suitable for my lab’s retainers and nightguards.

A bit tricky to tune, but durable
Needs careful calibration but is noticeably tougher than standard resins. Smooth consistency and low smell, with supports that remove cleanly and reduced surface pitting.
