BUCATSTATE Paper Small-Animal Bedding — 70L, Low-Dust Odor-Control
Product description
Compact packaging and expansion: The bedding ships compressed to conserve shipping and storage space. When unpacked and fluffed it can increase to roughly three times the compressed volume, letting a single bag cover more floor area once expanded.
Composition and certification: This product is made from paper fibers and carries FSC certification. It is presented as a natural, chemical-free substrate with no added fragrances or disinfectants, intended to be gentle on small-animal respiratory systems.
Absorbency and odor control: The manufacturer states the paper is highly absorbent, designed to lock in moisture and reduce odors compared with some unabsorbent substrates. It’s suitable for nesting, tunneling, and general cage coverage.
Dust and packaging: Marketed as very low in dust (claimed at or near 99%), the bedding is sealed in a food-grade PE bag to remain clean and dry during transit. Some users report a faint plastic scent on first opening that dissipates after airing the product.
Intended use and sizing: Sold as a 70L pack in its compressed form, which requires fluffing to reach usable volume. Recommended for small animals such as Syrian and dwarf hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and chinchillas, either as main bedding or supplemental nesting material.
Pros
- Expands up to about three times its compressed volume
- Very low dust for sensitive pets and owners
- FSC-certified, no chemical additives
Cons
- Compressed bags need time and effort to fluff
- Some users find individual bags small for long-term use
- Occasional initial plastic scent until aired
VerdictA lightweight, highly absorbent paper bedding that expands significantly after unpacking. It’s engineered to reduce airborne dust, contains no chemical additives, and is suitable as nesting or general bedding for hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits and chinchillas. For many owners it’s a clean, soft option that controls smell well, but buyers should be prepared to fluff compressed

Used with dwarf hamster — works well
No complaints. Works as expected for a dwarf hamster.

Soft and pretty
Very soft bedding and the colors look lovely. Would be perfect if offered in a full 70L expanded size.

Great nesting material for mice
My mice adore using this to build nests. It’s softer and much lighter than many other beddings and seems to help keep odors down. The bag is easy to open and the bedding is simple to arrange. Cleanup is straightforward—just dump it out since it doesn’t cling. Quality seems solid, but I use it alongside aspen since my mice prefer aspen for base bedding. Works well for reducing interest from other pets because it controls scent.

Hamster-approved
The compressed pack really puffs up after unpacking and holds moisture well. No problems with tunneling or sneezing so far; quality looks good and absorption is effective.

Too small for regular guinea pig use
The individual packs are smaller than expected for the amount paid. With only one guinea pig this would get expensive to use constantly. Dry it seemed odorless, but once used there was a noticeable smell. I liked the colors, though.

Bright colors, low dust
Lovely colors that brighten my hamster’s space; no dust and very safe. The bag expanded a lot and only half a pack covered my 80 cm cage.

Guinea pigs appreciate the softness
Our guinea pigs prefer this over other brands. It’s softer, controls odor well, and lasts. Slightly more costly than basic options, but we think the comfort and performance are worth it.

Works for chinchillas too
My chinchillas like it and so do I. The color is a nice change from plain white and it performs without issues.

Comfortable and odor-free for my hamster
Soft and largely odorless; my little hamster enjoys it. The package isn’t huge, but it’s enough for a small pet.

Clean, light, and low dust
I tried paper bedding from this brand for my Syrian hamster and am impressed. Cleaner and less dusty than the white brand I used before, no weird debris, and it fluffs up nicely without being cotton-like. The green matched my forest-themed cage perfectly.

Very disappointed—false volume claims
Misleading advertising. I bought a bag expecting the advertised volume but it barely lasted a week. Definitely smaller than similar packages.

Sizing was misleading
This felt far smaller than other 14–15L packs I buy. The compressed bag was about one quarter the size I expected and didn’t match the usual volume. I’d advise comparing actual pack dimensions before buying.
