Two-Story Wooden Rabbit Hutch with Locking Leak-Proof Trays
Product description
This two-level rabbit hutch arrives as a kit with all fasteners and hardware included. The unit measures 39.3" long by 22" wide and 36.8" tall, and ships with ramps, sliding and hinged doors, and two deep removable trays that lock in place to prevent leaks. Casters are fitted to the base to let you glide the hutch across floors or reposition it outdoors under shelter.
The main structure combines solid wood panels with an aluminum-alloy reinforced frame and wire mesh enclosures for visibility and airflow. The wood has a natural finish; wire sections provide protection while allowing fresh air and light. The trays are plastic and slide out from the bottom for quick emptying and wiping, helping keep bedding dry and odors under control.
The interior is split into an upper sleeping area and a lower run so pets have separate spaces for resting and activity without extra dividers. Multiple doors and sliding access points make feeding, cleaning, and handling easy. The elevated design helps keep animals away from ground damp and small predators when used in a sheltered outdoor spot.
Assembly is aided by pre-drilled holes and labeled parts; however, a power drill speeds the build and a second person makes alignment simpler. Some users have reported occasional splitting when screws are placed too near edges. A brief airing outdoors or a rinse can reduce any factory odor reported by some owners.
This hutch suits rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, ferrets, rats and similar small animals that are not persistent wood chewers. For animals that gnaw, extra protection or supervision is advisable. Routine cleaning is simplified by the slide-out trays and the many access doors.
Pros
- Deep removable trays that lock to contain mess
- Multiple doors and two-level layout for separation
- Wheeled base for easy repositioning and cleaning
Cons
- Some reports of strong initial factory odor
- Wood can split if screws are placed too close to edges
- Not chew-proof against determined gnawers
VerdictThis roomy two-story hutch offers lots of access, ventilation and convenient cleaning with deep removable trays and smooth wheels. Construction uses solid wood and an aluminum-alloy reinforced frame to resist wear, but some buyers report a strong initial smell and that determined chewers can damage the wood. Assembly is straightforward if you have a drill and a helper. Overall a practical option f

Lovely, roomy enclosure
I adore this hutch. The modern look and wood finish make it feel like furniture, and it’s spacious enough to organize my pet’s space comfortably. Multiple doors make access simple, the mesh provides good ventilation, and it keeps the animal secure. It fits well with home décor and I’m very pleased with it.

Works for small rodents but arrived with a chemical smell
It arrived with a very strong chemical odor, so we aired it for weeks and rinsed it. Too small for full-time rabbit housing in my opinion, but great for rats, guinea pigs or hamsters if they’re let out often. Construction seems solid and the wire deters chewing. Assembly is a bit of work but expected. Lots of doors and a roomy lower section—add a hammock for comfort.

Lower-end finish but decent size
Feels like a budget item with scuffed surfaces and rough edges. I’m unsure about long-term durability. On the plus side, the dimensions are generous and give sufficient room for small pets.

Good once you have the right tools
You’ll want a drill to build this; with one it was fairly simple to assemble solo. A few panels split a little during assembly but it didn’t affect sturdiness. The casters are handy for moving and cleaning. My bunny uses the upper area to sleep and manages the ramp despite its incline. Happy with the purchase.

Worked well for two rabbits
We bought two units for our unaltered rabbits. The first had a few tight-fitting pieces but the second assembled smoothly. Multiple doors are convenient and the bottom trays pull out for easy cleaning. I keep the water bowl over the litter area because the wire holding it seems a bit weak for heavier bowls.

Ignored the negative posts — assembled fine
I read complaints first but unpacking showed every piece present and intact. Parts are light wood yet quite stable when assembled correctly. I used a small amount of wood glue and clear silicone for peace of mind and found that helped secure dowels and seams. If built carefully it’s a dependable, attractive hutch.

Sturdy build, thoughtful features
Very satisfied overall and giving five stars. Two people made assembly far quicker—an impact driver really helps. The wood smelled fresh at first, instructions were clear, and once we learned to avoid screwing too close to edges the splitting stopped. My rabbit entered immediately. The ramp is a bit steep but improving with practice. Wheels make moving the unit effortless.

Health issues linked to chewing — warning
After a few months our show rabbit developed severe gastrointestinal problems. Despite vet care, food changes and constant cleaning, other rabbits sharing the porch with this hutch developed the same symptoms. The only common factor was this wooden hutch, and once removed the issues resolved. If your pet chews wood, be cautious.

Not suitable for persistent chewers
I bought it for a rat and that was my mistake — the listing targets rabbits but I hoped the build would be tougher. Assembly was manageable alone though two people is preferable. Some parts lacked markings and my ramp hinge needed adjusting. Trays slide out easily for cleaning, but being wood it will not withstand heavy chewing.
